Fire broke out at Katoloni Secondary School in Machakos County on Saturday night, September 14, razing down one of the school's dormitories.
Confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross disclosed that it dispatched its emergency response teams to the scene to contain the fire.
In a subsequent update, the humanitarian organisation noted that the fire was contained through a joint effort with the Machakos County firefighters.
"The fire has been contained, thanks to the joint efforts of Kenya Red Cross first responders and Machakos County firefighters. The Kenya Red Cross is also providing first aid on-site," Kenya Red Cross stated.
In photos and videos seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the fire severely destroyed the school dormitory.

At the time of publishing this article, no deaths had been reported as a result of the incident.

The CS stated that the exercise was meant to assess the level of compliance with the guidelines of the Safety Standards Manual for schools.
“It has, therefore, become necessary for the Ministry of Education, jointly with relevant agencies, to conduct an urgent countrywide inspection of all public and private basic learning institutions to assess their levels of compliance with the guidelines of the Safety Standards Manual for Schools in Kenya,” Ogamba remarked.
