Taita Taveta County Women Rep Lydia Haika has called for the resignation of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) director Mohamed Amin over rising cases of insecurities in the coastal county.
Speaking during the burial of boda boda rider Silvanus Mwanjala on Saturday, September 21, the MP said Amin had failed to execute his mandate as the director of DCI.
Haika said most young people in Taita Taveta have fallen victim to robbery with violence, incidents that she believes could have been avoided if Amin had taken action.
In Mwanjala's case, the Women Rep said he lost his life after being ambushed and brutally stabbed by unknown assailants.

In a post on X, Haika noted that despite treatment efforts in neighbouring Tanzania, the injuries were too severe, eventually causing his death.
"Silvanus was not just a dedicated boda boda rider; he was a passionate footballer, church member, actor, and cherished community figure, leaving an irreplaceable void.
"I condemn this senseless violence and demand justice for Silvanus. It is disheartening to see the security department in Taita Taveta fail to protect our youth from these horrific crimes," she wrote on X.
As a result of this incident and many others, Haika wants Amin who is at the helm of DCI to step down, claiming that he has failed to do his work.
"You should resign Bwana Amin. I don't know if you know what is happening in Taita Taveta; we have lost six of our young boda boda riders but you are sitting in your office knowing that you are the director of DCI.
"As the Women Rep of Taita Taveta County, I demand the resignation of Amin because he has failed to do his job. You are letting the government and the President down, leave that office," Haika said while addressing mourners.
