The seat fell vacant after Wetangula resigned to vie for the speaker of the National Assembly seat.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and the Speaker of National Assembly Moses Wetangula are set to launch a last-minute massive campaign for Ford Kenya senatorial candidate Wafula Wakoli.

The Speaker in a Saturday statement said they will be traversing Bungoma with the Prime CS to rally residents to support the Wakoli.

"Musalia Mudavadi and I will be traversing across the nine constituencies of Bungoma drumming up support for Lion's party candidate Mwalimu David Wafula Wakoli. The Bungoma Senate seat belongs to the Simba party!" he said.

Wetangula is still the party leader of the Ford Kenya party.

Wakoli is facing stiff competition from UDA candidate Mwambu Mabonga and Azimio's Wafula Wamunyinyi.

The seat fell vacant after Wetangula resigned to vie for the speaker of the National Assembly seat.

Others candidates in the Bungoma race are Jacob Machacha Majembe, an ally of former Cabinet minister Fred Gumo and Bishop Harman Kasili, who is the chairman of the Lake Region Economic Bloc private sector organisations.

Other constituencies conducting by-elections are Kandara and Garissa Township where elections will be on January 5, 2023.

Aden Duale resigned as the Garissa Town MP to take up the Defense CS post.

Immediate Kandara MP Alice Wahome also resigned after landing an appointment as Water, Sanitation and Irrigation CS.
