The Kibwezi West MP moved the motion to impeach Rigathi Gachagua.

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has expressed his satisfaction following the Senate’s decision to uphold the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua as Deputy President. 

In a statement on Friday, October 18, Mutuse thanked the National Assembly and the Senate, claiming that the country will never be the same again.

"Thank you my colleagues at the national Assembly and Senate for approving my impeachment charges against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

"Kenya will never be the same again. Those of us in leadership must henceforth live to the letter and spirit of our Constitution and laws," Mutuse remarked.

The lawmaker said he is proud to have been the mover of the motion that eventually led to the impeachment of a sitting deputy president.

"I'm proud that I will go down in the annals of history as the first Kenyan to impeach a sitting deputy president. It took bravery and courage. It was a duty for my country. I love Kenya," Mutuse stated.

The Kibwezi MP tabled the motion to impeach Gachagua in the National Assembly on Tuesday, October 1.

Mutuse brought 11 charges against the former deputy president, including gross violation of the constitution and money laundering.

The senate on Thursday, October 18, upheld the impeachment of Gachagua after voting on the 11 charges against him to reach the required two-thirds majority of 45 senators in 5 charges.
