The magistrate passed way on Sunday morning, October 20.

Milimani Commercial Court Resident Magistrate Zena Atetwe Rashid Jalenga has passed away.

Confirming the death, Chief Justice Martha Koome disclosed that Jalenga died on Sunday morning, October 20, following a long illness.

“It is with a profound sense of loss and sadness that I announce the death of Hon. Zena Atetwe Rashid Jalenga, Resident Magistrate, Milimani Commercial Court, which occurred early in the morning of October 20, 2024, following a long illness bravely borne,” Koome remarked.

The Chief Justice stated that the late magistrate worked diligently and demonstrated a firm commitment to the rule of law while serving the nation.

"During her service in the judiciary, Hon. Rashid exhibited firm commitment to the cause of justice and the rule of law, working diligently and in keeping with the values of the Constitution in service to our nation," CJ Koome said.

The CJ sent her condolences to the family and friends of the departed magistrate on behalf of the judiciary.

"On my own behalf and that of the judiciary fraternity, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and loved ones. We pray that the Almighty God graces us the fortitude to brave this difficult period and rests her soul in eternal peace," she stated.

The death of the magistrate comes a few months after Siaya High Court presiding Judge Justice Daniel Ogembo passed away.

Justice Ogembo was found dead on Wednesday, July 17, at his home in Siaya town.

Just days before Justice Ogembo's death, High Court judge David Majanja passed on after undergoing surgery at Nairobi Hospital.
