Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has called out National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula following his recent remarks on impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement on X on Sunday, October 27, the MP stated that he expected Wetangula to be neutral and not be seen as either supporting or opposing the government.
However, Salasya said that after Gachagua's impeachment, it is apparent that Wetangula is supporting the government, especially after advocating for deputy president designee Kithure Kindiki to be sworn in as soon as possible.
"When I was growing up as a young person, I thought a speaker of a national assembly was a very respectful person. The person should be neutral and must never be involved or be seen to be on the side of government or opposition or engage in politics of the day.
'I'm so surprised with Wetangula who is at the forefront with Kimani Ichung'wah and Mwengi Mutuse calling for Kithure Kindiki's swearing-in next week because [Gachagua] was not loyal to William Ruto. We don't have a speaker but Ruto's puppet. Let's see how the Judiciary is going to behave; if the same way, then we will conclude that Kenya is now officially back to the dark days of worshipping one man," the MP wrote on X.

Speaking during the burial of Tharaka MP George Murugara's mother's burial on Saturday, October 26, Wetangula recently criticized Gachagua accusing him of disloyalty.
"I assure Kenyans that the future is bright. I salute the majority leader and all MPs for being courageous leaders. The only currency in politics is loyalty. Loyalty to your cause, the people who elected you, your boss, and what you stand for. I know Professor Kindiki understands this well," he stated.
The Speaker emphasized the need for unity within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, highlighting that Gachagua's approach could jeopardize their collective goals.
"In Kenya, we have two mountains. Those of us who come from Mt Elgon do not keep talking about the mountain," Wetangula said.
