Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a prime suspect in the assault of Mombasa blogger, John Kajira.
In a statement on Thursday, November 7, DCI disclosed that the suspect, Omar Ali Mohamed, was arrested while attempting to flee to Tanzania.
"One of the prime suspects in the September 12 abduction and subsequent sexual harassment of blogger Bruce John Khajira aka Chawa - 001 has been arrested at the Lunga Lunga border while trying to flee to Tanzania. The suspect has been identified as Omar Ali Mohamed alias Nyanya.
"Omar Ali has been on the run since the commission of the diabolical act, and his arrest today is a culmination of days and nights of vigilance by duty-bound detectives working jointly with the Immigration Department, who were privy to the plans by the masterminds to sneak out of the country all those implicated in the perversion," DCI stated.
The directorate stated that Mohamed was forensically placed at both the primary and secondary scenes of the incident following investigation.

"Notably, detectives at the Digital Forensics Lab identified the motor vehicle make Nissan Note grey in colour and registration number KDQ 394C, in which the victim was bundled from his house to the scene. The vehicle had been hired by Omar Ali on 20th August, 2024 and returned on 12th September in the evening after the fiendish gang completed their hellish mission," DCI added.
DCI noted that the said vehicle was forensically placed at the primary scene of the incident where the victim was sexually assaulted.
It added that several accomplices linked to the incident have been identified even as it called on them to surrender.
The arrest comes after the directorate apprehended four other suspects in connection with the incident on on Monday, September 23.
DCI disclosed that the suspects are believed to have participated in the abduction and subsequent gang rape and sodomy of Khajira on September 12, 2024.
