Kipsang explained that the placement exercise will differ from what has been witnessed with placement to secondary schools under 8-4-4.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has detailed how students under the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) will be placed in Senior Secondary Schools (SSS).

Speaking in Nakuru on Monday, November 11, Kipsang explained that the placement exercise will differ from what has been witnessed with placement to secondary schools under 8-4-4.

According to the PS, more emphasis will be placed on career paths than schools of preference.

Kipsang expounded that students will be guided in picking the three available career paths before, they begin to choose the schools.

The career paths to be pursued in SSS include Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Social Sciences (humanities), and Performing Arts, music, and athletics.

"Previously, the first thing our children thought about was the schools. This time our children will think about their pathway. After knowing their pathway and where it is available, they will think about the schools," he stated.

On the other hand, he indicated that the government would issue further guidelines on the placement early next year as the first Grade 10 class commences in January 2026.

Meanwhile, Kisang noted that the curriculum design for Grade 10 was already being worked on ahead of the publishing of education material.

The government will also undertake the construction of laboratories in all schools to help in the implementation of the SSS curriculum.
