The governor recently met President Ruto at the State House after which he said he was laying the ground for his visit to his county.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has trashed reports that he has ditched the Azimio La Umoja coalition for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

The Governor was elected on an ODM party ticket and was heavily campaigned for by the party leader Raila Odinga.

However, an Image of him meeting President William Ruto has drawn mixed reactions among Kenyans with reports emerging that he could have quit Azimio for Ruto's camp.

On Monday, the Governor came clean on the reports and said:

"I have not left Azimio for Kenya Kwanza. As Azimio Governors, we agreed that we shall collaborate with the National Government on matters of mutual interest."

The governor recently met President Ruto at State House after which he said he was laying the ground for his visit to Kakamega this week.

The president is set to visit Kakamega to inspect some projects in the county.

"Accompanied by Senator Bonny Khalwale and Malava Member of Parliament Hon Malulu Injendi, we met President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at State House, Nairobi ahead of the President's working visit to Kakamega County this week," Barasa stated after the meeting.

The Head of State also met a host of leaders from the region in what was perceived by outside as Ruto's plan to tame Raila's growing influence.
