Prime Cabinet Secretary and acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudvadi has gazetted 27 new sub-counties set to be operational across the country.
In a statement on Tuesday, November 26, the Ministry of Interior noted that the gazettement was necessitated by population growth.
Other than the new sub-counties, the Prime CS further gazetted 59 new divisions, 170 locations, and 322 sub-locations.
"Necessitated by population growth and to comply with the ministerial 2:1 ratio requirement, we have officially established 578 new administrative units across the country by gazettement.
"When operational, the 27 sub-counties, 59 divisions, 170 locations, and 322 sub-locations will improve citizens' access to Government services and effectively address security issues in respective areas," stated the Ministry of Interior.

The new sub-counties include Magarini South, Magarini North, Kokane, Akachiu, Maua, Tharaka West, Mukothima, Ndithini, Nuu, Zombe, Illeret, Engineer, Soin, Sigowet, Kolowa, Baringo West and Mukutani.
Others are Tiaty Central, Samburu West, Saboti, North East Kano, Ndhiwa East, Ndhiwa West, Siaya West, Embakasi East, Embakasi West, Embakasi North, Embakasi Central Embakasi South, Roysambu and Ruaraka.
In the gazette notice, Mudavadi explained that Magarini South Sub-County had previously existed as Magarini Sub-County, similar to Maua Sub-County, which was renamed from Igembe South Sub-County.
Similarly, Zombe Sub-County was renamed from Mutitu Sub-County, Sigowet from Soin Sigowet, Tiaty Central from Tiaty West, Ndhiwa West from Ndhiwa, and Embakasi Central from Embakasi.
Meanwhile, Tharaka West Sub-County will have its headquarters in Kibung'a, Kokane in Assa, Nuu in Nuu Trading Centre, Ndithini in Kiatineni Market, Soin in Kipsitet, Sigowet in Chepkemel and Baringo West in Barwesa.
Tiaty Central will be headquartered in Chemolingot, Samburu West in Loosuk, North East Kano in Masogo, Ndhiwa East in Ombo and Siaya West in Uranga.
