Thanksgiving is an annual national holiday in the United States.
During the event, families and friends gather to give thanks for the blessings they experience throughout the year.
The holiday is usually celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
"Families gather together to commemorate the day around the table for a feast in which stuffed turkey, cranberries, rice, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie are among the traditional dishes, and apple cider a favourite beverage," the US Embassy explained.
"Charitable organizations serve Thanksgiving dinners to the needy and send baskets of food to the aged and ailing. On this day, New York City holds a parade in which Santa Claus appears, heralding the pre-Christmas season."
