 The housing projects consist of studio apartments, one one-bedroom to three-bedroom units.

Ministry of Lands has announced the sale of 4,888 affordable housing units across the country.  

As detailed in an advert published on Tuesday, December 3, the housing projects consist of studio apartments, one one-bedroom to three-bedroom units.  

Additionally, the Ministry detailed that the projects consist of houses that target Kenyans of all classes.

For instance, Social Housing targets Kenyans who earn below Ksh20,000 while Affordable Housing targets Ksh20,000-Ksh149,000 earners. The Affordable Middle-Class Housing targets Kenyans who earn above Ksh149,000.

Locations

The housing projects are located in various parts of the country including MachakoscTownship Constituency, Makenji (Kiharu Constituency, Muranga County), and Gichugu (Kirinyaga East Constituency, Kirinyaga County).

Other units are located in Nanyuki Town, Kinangop, Wajir Township, Isiolo Township, Milimani Estate (Kakamega County), South Maragoli (Vihiga County), Mabera (Migori County) Chepalungu Constituency and Kapsuswa (Uasin Gishu County).

Housing projects in Emgwen (Nandi County), Bahati (Nakuru County), Elburgon(Molo), Ruiru Town, Thika Town Huduma Center, Bondeni, Embu Town, Machakos Survey Camp, NHC Homabay, NHC Embu, NHC Kirinyaga and NHC Nyandarua were also listed among the available units.

Prices

The prices of the housing units will depend on the various class categories.

Social Housing - For Kenyans who earn below Ksh20,000

Studio apartments will be sold for Ksh640,000 while one-bedroom units will be sold at Ksh960,000.

On the other hand, two-bedroom units will be sold for Ksh1,280,000.

Affordable Housing Units -For Kenyans who earn between Ksh20,000-Ksh149,000

Studio apartments were listed between Ksh1 million to Ksh1.4 million depending on the size. One-bedroom units will be sold between Ksh1.5 to Ksh2.1 million depending on the size.

The price of two-bedroom apartments in this category was set at between Ksh2 million to Ksh3.2 million. Meanwhile, three-bedroom units were priced at Ksh3 million.

Affordable Middle-Class Housing - for Kenyans who earn above Ksh149,000

The housing available for this category includes two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. Two-bedroom units for this category were priced at Ksh2.4 million to Ksh4.2 million.

Three-bedroom units for this category will range between Ksh3.6 million to Ksh5.1 million depending on the size.

How to Purchase

Go to the eCitizen portal: www.ecitizen.go.ke and go to the Boma Yangu tab.

Register and create a Boma Yangi account.

Save for your home’s deposit by making regular payments into your Boma Yangu savings wallet.

"Select a home in your preferred location. The required deposit for the unit will be indicated. Provide the information required for allocation on the portal. Partner banks or Saccos on the Boma Yangu platform will assess and give you a pre-qualification for an affordable home loan," read the notice in part.

"Apply for the home when the sales process is open. Select your preferred mode of payment which is either a monthly or one-off payment. Partner banks/Saccos will be available to guide you through the process."

The Affordable Housing Board will then review your application and communicate its decision.

For those allocated, an offer letter will be sent to you. One is required to sign the respective agreement based on the payment plan.
