Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said that a court injunction is preventing the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Speaking on Sunday, December 8, during a church service in Kakamega County, Kindiki stated that some Kenyans had filed an injunction against the establishment of the recruitment panel supposed to recruit IEBC commissioners.
The deputy president appealed to the petitioners to reach an out-of-court agreement to resolve the matter in order to pave the way for the constitution of IEBC.
“The reason that there is no IEBC at the moment is because some Kenyans went to court. There is an injunction against the establishment of the recruitment panel that is supposed to recruit IEBC commissioners.
“We are asking the parties that have taken this matter to court to try and reach an out-of-court settlement so that we can unblock that process and complete the reconstitution of IEBC as soon as possible,” Kindiki remarked.

The deputy president stated that Kenya is governed by the rule of law, and therefore, the government should not be blamed for the delay caused by the court injunction.
His remarks come as a section of Kenyans and leaders pushed for the constitution of the electoral as soon as possible.
Speaking on Sunday in Kasarani, Nairobi, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua called on the urgent constitution of IEBC.
Gachagua claimed that an election is as credible as the electoral process and that Kenyans were beginning to read mischief due to the delay of the process.
"An election is as credible as the process. The Kriegler report stated that the electoral commission must be in place three years before the election. We are now remaining with two and a half years. There is no IEBC and people can read mischief as to why it has not been constituted. We are calling for the constitution of IEBC urgently and as of yesterday," Gachagua remarked.
