Kindiki added that the government is revising educational curricula in a bid to align workers’ skills with the demands of local and overseas markets.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government's efforts to address unemployment and enhance household incomes.

In a statement on Tuesday, December 10, Kindiki outlined a comprehensive four-pronged approach put in place to address the issues.

"Finalisation of a new legislative and policy frameworks, increasing access to decent opportunities locally and abroad, expediting the conclusion of bilateral labour agreements, establishment of a national skills inventory and stricter regulation of private employment agencies are some of the measures being taken to progress these issues," he said.

Kindiki added that the government is revising educational curricula in a bid to align workers’ skills with the demands of local and overseas markets.

"To align skills with local and overseas labour market demands, review of relevant curricula ,tailor-made short courses and certification based on recognition of prior learning are some of the interventions that have been put in place," he added.

This comes barely a month after Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura revealed the total number of Kenyans who have secured jobs abroad through government programs. 

In a statement following a radio interview on Monday, November 18, 2024, he said over 100,000 Kenyans have benefited from job opportunities in Canada and Australia among other countries.

"A total of 105,367 Kenyans have benefitted from job opportunities abroad in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain among others," he stated.

Mwaura also disclosed that the government is in talks with other countries to open more job opportunities for Kenyans interested in working abroad.

"The government is also finalizing bilateral negotiations with other countries to expand our labor export market beyond our traditional destinations. Active negotiations are in the sunset stages with Russia, Poland, and Jordan to open more doors of opportunities to Kenyans abroad.

"A new recruitment for these foreign opportunities will kick off from 18th November to 6th December 2024 across the counties. We encourage Kenyans to seize these opportunities which not only provides jobs but also skills and technology transfer to Kenya," he added.
