ODM has lamented over the arrest of Turkana South MP John Ariko.

In a statement dated Thursday, December 26, ODM detailed that the MP was arrested in Eldoret Town by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

He was then taken and held at the Central Police Station in Eldoret Town.

According to the party, no reasons were provided for the arrest of the party's National Vice Chairman.

Consequently, the party demanded that Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja explain why the lawmaker was arrested.

"DCI officers in Eldoret have this evening arrested Turkana South MP Mr John Ariko, our National Vice Chairman without any explanation," read the statement in part.

"He is locked up at the Central Police Station in Eldoret town. We demand an explanation from the IG of police on this incident."

At the time of publication, the National Police Service (NPS) and DCI were yet to issue a statement over the alleged arrest.

The arrest of the MP comes at a time when the police service is facing immense pressure from Kenyans over the arbitrary arrest of Kenyans.

Following the abductions of some youth, leaders across the political divide have condemned the abductions while demanding accountability within the police service.
