Chief Justice Martha Koome has announced the death of Hon John Tito Kunyuk.
According to a condolence message dated Tuesday, December 31, Kunyuk served as the Principal Kadhi at the Nakuru Law Courts.
Koome noted that the Principal Kadhi died after a prolonged illness. However, the exact illness was revealed.
"I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the family, relatives, friends, and colleagues of Hon. Kunyuk during this difficult time," read the statement not in part.

"Hon. Kunyuk began his distinguished career with the Judiciary in January 2013 when he was appointed as a Resident Kadhi and posted to the Kajiado Law Courts. Over the years, he served with unwavering dedication at various stations, including Isiolo, Kakuma, Kisumu, and Nakuru Law Courts, consistently demonstrating a strong commitment to the principles of justice."
On the other hand, the Chief Justice celebrated the deceased as a researcher whose works aimed to enhance the delivery of justice within the courts.
In particular, Koome highlighted Kunyuk's publications focused on Islamic Family Law and its application in contemporary Kenyan society.
"He also researched the history and literature of his Turkana community. His dedication to his community was evident in his efforts to champion various community and charity programmes in his home county of Turkana," the CJ stated.
"Throughout his career, Hon. Kunyuk exemplified the virtues of diligence, fairness, and professionalism in all his judicial duties. His passing is not only a profound loss to his family but also to the Judiciary and the communities he faithfully served."
