A light aircraft crashed at the Kwachocha area in Malindi, Kilifi County on Friday, January 10.

According to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), three people were injured during the incident.

KCAA also confirmed that three people lost their lives in the incident.

At the time of publication, rescue teams including the firefighters had already arrived at the scene.

Police were also at the scene to help cordon off the accident scene and enable the rescue team to undertake their duties.

The cause of the accident is yet to be established, however, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has launched investigations to ascertain the cause of the crash.

"Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) wishes to confirm that an aircraft registration number 5Y-CDC, crashed 2km from Malindi airport at 1152Z (2.52 pm)," read the statement of part.

"The aircraft had three people on board who survived and were rushed to the nearest hospital. Meanwhile, regrettably, there were 3 fatalities on the ground. Government agencies are already on site to establish the cause of the accident."
