A fire broke out on Wednesday night, January 15, at the University of Nairobi (UoN) main campus, razing down a section of buildings in the institution.
Confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch disclosed that the fire affected parts of the Mahatma Gandhi Wing Block, which houses offices and a hall.
"A fire has been reported in a section of the University of Nairobi. Firefighters are at the scene. Efforts to put it out are underway," the Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch stated.
However, in an update, the organization noted that the fire was successfully contained by the Nairobi City County firefighters and no casualties were reported.
"The Nairobi Fire Team has successfully contained the fire, which affected parts of the Mahatma Gandhi Wing Block. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported," the Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch remarked.

In photos and videos seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the inferno had engulfed the section of the university, with firefighters responding to the scene.
The incident comes weeks after a huge fire destroyed structures at Nyayo Market in Ngara, Nairobi, leaving traders counting their losses.
In the on Sunday, December 1, 2024, incident, firefighters responded to the scene and later contained the fire.
No casualties were reported.
