The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has responded to reports of Justin Muturi's son, Leslie Muturi, being linked to money laundering.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has dismissed reports claiming it has approved money laundering charges against Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi's son, Leslie Muturi.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 16, the ODPP disclosed that the statement circulating online purporting to be from the office was fake.

The now-flagged statement claimed that the ODPP had opened an inquiry into Leslie Muturi and three other leaders regarding the June 25, 2024, protests, accusing them of involvement in money laundering and other crimes.

The leaders mentioned in the fake statement included Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru Mwangi, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, and Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje.

The false statement further alleged that the ODPP had sufficient evidence to charge Leslie and the three MPs for the purported crimes.

This comes days after CS Muturi recorded a statement with the police over the adduction of his son which happened during the June 2024 anti-government protests.

The CS claimed that his son was abducted by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and that he learnt about NIS's involvement in the incident from a friend working within the intelligence unit.

Muturi further alleged that he tried to seek assistance from then-Interior CS Prof. Kithure Kindiki without success before he decided to involve the president.

"The president joked, asking why anyone would want to arrest a young person over the Gen Z demonstrations. He even mentioned that Kiunjuri’s son and the sons of other officials had been involved in similar demonstrations. He then called Noordin Haji directly,” Muturi said.

Muturi noted that it was during this call that Haji allegedly confirmed Leslie’s detention before President William Ruto ordered his release.
