"I have written two resignation Letters and none has been responded to."

Activist Jackson Kuria Kihara, popularly known as Cop Shakur, has opened up about his decision to take up activism and leave his career as a security officer.

In an update on Tuesday, January 21, Kihara noted that he decided to be an activist simply because he couldn't stand President William Ruto.

He noted that this decision has seen him face disciplinary action and intimidation which include being posted to a hardship area.

"Many people ask me why I choose to be an activist despite being an officer. After the Gen Z protests, I was interdicted and then reinstated back to work and posted to a hardship area as punishment," he said.

Kihara revealed that since the protests he has written several resignation letters but none of the letters have been responded to.

"I have written two resignation Letters and none has been responded to. They said they won't let me go, they even told my lawyer the exact thing," he added.

Additionally, Kihara condemned unlawful actions such as extra-judicial killings and called on fellow officers to stand firm against unlawful orders.

"I will always stand for justice. I was trained for nine months as an officer, I knew having a sniper on top of KICC shooting harmless Kenyans was wrong. I know abductions are wrong, extra-judicial killings are wrong. I want to urge every officer in the service not to follow unlawful orders. Let them charge you with anything they want. Stand for what is right," he concluded.

This comes days after Kihara was arrested and arraigned in court on mutiny and publishing false information charges.

On Wednesday, January 15, Kihara was arrested at his residence within Kamiti Maximum Prison by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

He was subsequently detained at Muthaiga Police Station and taken to court on the following day.

The DCI sought to detain him for 21 days to investigate allegations of incitement to mutiny and publishing false information.

However, Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina ruled that Kihara would be remanded for three days to allow the police to conclude their investigations.

On Monday, January 20, Kihara was arraigned before Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe and charged with publishing false information, specifically related to a post on his X account.

After pleading not guilty, Kihara was released on a cash bail of Ksh 50,000 with the mention of the case set for February 17, 2025.
