Vocal lawyer Danstan Omari has announced that he will run for Nairobi County senate seat in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, January 22, Omari noted that Nairobi needed a firm person to run for the seat.
The lawyer claimed that the current Nairobi senator, Edwin Sifuna, is a firm individual but said that he expects him to run for the gubernatorial seat.
“Nairobi needs a solid person to be a senator. Sifuna is a solid person but it will be time for him to become governor. Therefore, I will be in the race to take over from Sifuna because as lawyers we are precedent so that in 2032 I will also be the governor of Nairobi.
"This is the city where the head of state sits. This is the city of Africa. It can’t have someone who doesn’t have a profile,” Omari remarked.

The lawyer did not, however, disclose the party he will use in his bid for the seat, adding that he will head into politics as a distinguished lawyer who has defended Nairobi residents.
“My brother Sifuna came in on the wave of ODM. He never came in as Sifuna. I want to come in as Omari who has been in court and defended those hawkers, touts and boda boda operators and listened to the business community,” Omari explained.
He added, “The business community does not mean the multi-billionaires, the business community of Nairobi starts from the small-scale businesses of Ksh5 to the multi-billion businesses. That is the voice missing in the Senate.”
Omari noted that he will present his policies and agenda independently, regardless of whether he contests as an independent candidate or under a party ticket.
