President William Ruto is set to launch the Bumula Modern Market on Friday, January 24, as part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s efforts to empower small-scale traders.

The market, strategically located along the busy Kisumu-Busia highway, is one of over 400 modern markets being constructed across the country.

Notably, the number is expected to reach 200 as the project advances through various phases of creative construction.

Once fully completed, the market will feature key amenities, including an ablution block, an ICT hub, a cold room for preserving perishable goods, a food court, and a dedicated space for young mothers.

The modern facility, which will accommodate over 500 traders on market days, is poised to attract vendors and buyers from neighboring counties such as Vihiga and Bungoma.

This inter-county interaction is expected to enhance trade, create networks, and spur economic growth in the region.

"Such opportunities spur growth and empower local communities urging politicians to support the government in its development agenda," food vendor Electina Akello said.
