The brother of the late Justus Mutumwa, one of the three men who disappeared in Kitengela last year and his body later discovered at City Mortuary, has disclosed that he first visited the mortuary on December 27, 2024.
Speaking on Thursday, January 30, Duncan Kyalo explained that he had been moving around police stations in Nairobi in a bid to locate his brother before he finally ended up visiting City Mortuary.
He noted that when he first visited the facility, he did not find his brother's body. Even after a second visit, it was still missing until he was later called to identify the body on Thursday, January 30.
“I have been restless while moving around police stations in Nairobi. I went to City Mortuary on December 27, 2024, to look for my brother’s body but unfortunately, I did not find it. Then I went back on December 29 and still did not find it. But it was so unfortunate today that I have been called to identify my brother’s body and was told that it was brought there on December 19," Kyalo narrated.
He stated that some things did not add up, claiming that his brother’s body had been identified days before he visited the facility.

At the same time, he disclosed that among the unidentified bodies he was shown at the mortuary the first and second time he visited, his brother was not among them.
"Two things are not adding up because I was at City Mortuary twice and told the body was not there yet it was brought there before the first time I went to the mortuary. In the unidentified bodies which we were shown at the mortuary, my brother was not among them," Kyalo remarked.
On being called to identify the body, he said, “My father was called by the area administration and was told that they had a report that the body of my brother had been found and was at City Mortuary. He was told that the fingerprints were taken on December 19, 2024, and the results were out so he told me to go to City Mortuary and confirm if the body was that of my brother. I went there and found it was him.”
In a statement on Thursday, January 30, the National Police Service (NPS) disclosed that police were alerted about a body floating in the Nairobi River in the Ruai area on December 18, 2024, prompting an investigation.
NPS stated that the body remained unidentified until forensic investigations established that it was that of Mutumwa on Thursday.
The body of Martin Mwau, who went missing alongside Mutumwa, was also found at City Mortuary soon after the discovery of Mutumwa's body.
