Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has weighed in on Raila Odinga’s move to leave Governor Johnson Sakaja to be in charge of politics in Nairobi County.
Speaking on Wednesday, February 12, Babu said there was nothing wrong with the former Prime Minister’s perceived endorsement of Governor Sakaja.
“There is nothing wrong with Baba endorsing Sakaja. Babu Owino has been endorsed by the almighty God and Kenyans. You can see from the results that we were just shown, ranked the top but however if a prodigal son comes back home, even if we have a squirrel, we will slaughter it and welcome him back home,” said Babu.
The ODM MP went on to say that he has nothing personal against Governor Sakaja and their differences are purely ideological.
“I am happy for my brother, Sakaja is a young man like myself, we might differ ideologically but nothing personal. We differ because I am also a resident of Nairobi who expects services, pays taxes in Nairobi, and should be served by the Governor like any other Nairobian.

“Sakaja being a young person is an embarrassment to the young people because of what has been done. Several research firms have ranked Sakaja in the bottom ten. As a leader in Nairobi, I must push him to ensure he delivers to Nairobians,” Babu explained.
On Monday during a prayer meeting for Raila’s African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson bid at the Bomas of Kenya, the former Prime Minister said Governor Sakaja will oversee all political matters in the capital.
"I want Nairobi to remain united and strong. My son here will take charge," Raila said, pointing at Sakaja.
However, ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga denied that Raila had endorsed Sakaja for his re-election in 2027.
According to the Homa Bay Governor, Raila only wished Sakaja well in his work being that he is currently the county boss.
"No one can deny Babu to contest for any seat in the party. What Raila said is that he wanted Nairobi to remain strong and be run well. It had nothing to do with 2027,” she stated.
