According to EACC, the official had demanded a Ksh50,000 bribe to fast-track a case for a businessman

The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (ODPP) has sent Japheth Ouko Mayore Isaboke - a senior prosecutor arrested for demanding a Ksh50,000 bribe - on compulsory leave.

In a statement dated Monday, February 17, ODPP noted that the disciplinary action was taken in line with the law.

ODPP expressed that it was concerned by the report, adding that full investigations into the matter would reveal more information on the case.

"The ODPP undertakes to cooperate with the relevant investigative agency and pledges appropriate action will be undertaken including the decision to prosecute," read the statement in part.

"The ODPP remains committed to executing its constitutional mandate in accordance with the rule of law, public interest, and the administration of justice."

Earlier, EACC had announced the arrest of the senior prosecutor stationed at the ODPP office in Kilgoris.

According to the anti-graft agency, the official had demanded a Ksh50,000 bribe to fast-track a case for a businessman. Following negotiations the official pushed for a Ksh40,000 payment.

However, in a turn of events, the matter was reported to EACC, with a sting operation initiated to catch the official red-handed.

"The Commission conducted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect on Sunday 16th February 2025 while receiving Ksh20,000 as part of the bribe," EACC stated.

" He was held at Kisii Police Station and later released on Ksh30,000 cash bail pending the finalization of the investigation."
