Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has pushed for the appointment of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to the government following his loss at the African Union Commission (AUC) elections.
During Senate proceedings on Wednesday, February 19, the Senator suggested the appointment of Raila as the Prime Cabinet Secretary - a position currently held by Musalia Mudavadi.
He noted that Raila could serve in the position as they work to propose changes to the 2010 Constitution to create the position of Prime Minister.
According to Cherargei, Raila was deserving of the appointment owing to his stature, experience, and track record in government.

"I believe that Raila Odinga should serve this nation in any capacity and in my own opinion as the Senator of Nandi, I feel he should be given the position of PM. We need to fully implement the NADCO report," he remarked.
"Even as we push to amend the constitution in article 257 or 256 he can serve at the moment as the PCS as we reorganise the government as we move into the future."
On the other hand, he noted that Raila's support for President William Ruto was a big boost ahead of the 2027 polls.
"With the support of Raila, William Ruto will be elected by over 80 percent," Cherargei added.
Cherargei is one of the leaders who have pushed for the appointment of Raila to the government. Similar to Cherargei, Belgut MP Nelson Koech called for the reorganization of government.
“Raila Odinga is coming back home, what will he be doing with his energy, wisdom, and experience? I think we in Kenya Kwanza should accommodate that experience and counsel that he will give us and I think it will improve our country," the MP said.
“We have to find a structure that will accommodate Raila, whichever position that accommodates him we have to find it. We could relook at the NADCO report."
