Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has slammed Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja after he asked President William Ruto to purchase a chapati-making machine to support the Dishi na County school feeding program.
In a statement on Wednesday, March 12, Babu wondered why the Nairobi Governor was asking President Ruto to procure the machine over other things affecting Nairobi residents.
The ODM MP highlighted that Governor Sakaja should have prioritized drainage, health, roads, water, and employment over the chapati-making machine.
"Of all the issues affecting the people of Nairobi, Sakaja asked the President for a chapati-making machine to produce one million chapatis a day. Sakaja on Tuesday requested Ruto for the chapati-making machine noting that the Dishi na County program feeds 300,000 students in Nairobi and he would have to make one million chapatis for them.
"I am feeding 300,000 children in Nairobi, and now I will need to make one million chapatis. I will ask the president to help me with a chapati-making machine,” Sakaja stated.
President Ruto promised to purchase the machine and directed Sakaja to start exploring where it could be bought.
“The governor has asked me that in order to add chapati to Nairobi's dish, I should buy a chapati-making machine. I have agreed to buy the machine for him. Now, Governor, find a place to buy a chapati-making machine that makes one million chapatis,” said President Ruto.
