Mumias East MP Peter Salasya faced a violent confrontation on Sunday, March 23 at Nyayo National Stadium, where he was attacked and chased out by a group of individuals.
Videos circulating on social media showed the MP being physically confronted before being forced to flee the stadium.
In a separate video from the stadium's parking lot, one of the attackers could be heard shouting 'heshimu Raila' as they chased Salasya away.
Salasya, who has recently been at odds with Raila Odinga and his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has publicly challenged the party’s dominance in Western Kenya.
For instance, after being kicked off the National Assembly Committee on Regional Integration, Salasya vowed to go after the ODM party in the western region and finish its dominance.

“We are going to finish ODM in Kakamega and Western. I am serious about it. After all, we are with the people,” he said on Thursday, March 6.

Salasya blamed Raila, saying his removal from the committee was because of Raila’s deal with President William Ruto.
“I was removed from the Committee on Regional Integration and placed in the Committee of Broadcasting and Library Services, I was also taken to the Committee on Welfare. That shows that what Raila is telling the people that he is consulting is a lie. That man is selfish. That man has already sealed the deal with Ruto,” he added.
Salasya went on to say that being removed from the Regional Development Committee won’t stop him from developing his constituency.
“It will not stop me from delivering, with CDF I can still develop my constituency. I want to tell those MPs who think that by removing us from committees they will they will defeat me in terms of development, it will not happen because I am a good planner," he stated.
