Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has alleged a plot by the government to counter the move by former DP Rigathi Gachagua and his allies to form one strong political party for the Mt Kenya region.
In a statement dated Monday, March 24, the MP claimed that the government was keen on sponsoring the formation of parties in each Mt Kenya county.
As stated by Njeri, the move will weaken any possibility of having a strong party for the region.
Further, she claimed that the proposal would be propagated by the local leaders themselves.

"The government's game plan is to have a party in every Mt. Kenya county. Carefully puppeteered to seem pro-people but anti-a stronghold party," she wrote on her X page.
"You’ll start seeing and hearing the proponents of that idea. If you haven’t already. The oldest rule in the world is divide and rule."
Nonetheless, she expressed that they were vigilant adding that the plan to divide and rule would not work.
"Some of us may be young but we have the wisdom of our ancestors, seeping deep like the great Mugumo tree," she remarked.
Meanwhile, Gachagua is expected to unveil his political party in May after extensive discussions.
“For strategic reasons, I will not announce announce the party today. I will announce in May, we will launch the party in a colourful ceremony." the former DP revealed in February.
"We know there is a plan to launch more political parties to confuse the region. We are aware that there are plans for some of these parties to have presidential candidates to divide the region. We say it during Moi time, 1992, there was Matiba, Kibaki and Moi won."
