Murkomen was appointed as the Interior CS in December 2024.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has launched an attack on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen over the rising insecurity in the country.

In a statement on Wednesday, March 26, Cherargei said CS Murkomen was incompetent to hold the interior docket.

The UDA Senator also highlighted Head of Public Service Felix Koskei’s move to visit the North Rift, where he issued a warning to bandits.

“What I saw two years ago about CS Murkomen's incompetence can now be seen !! at least incompetence in roads meant that it can be fixed later, but incompetence in internal security means lives are lost that cannot be recovered.

“No wonder HOPS Koskey had to go and confront bandits in the North Rift over the weekend,” said Cheraregei.

The Nandi Senator pointed out that during Kindiki’s tenure, the Interior Ministry managed to contain insecurity in the country.

However, Cherargei mentioned that since Murkomen took over the docket, there have been rampant robbery incidents and terror attacks.

“During Kindiki tenure there was a lot of containment of insecurity in the country, but Murkomen tenure now machete gangs are marauding, terrorist attacks from Turkana & North Eastern Kenya and our villages are now insecure including my Kapsabet Town where a person was killed less 200metres from Kapsabet County police headquarters,” Cherargei added.

On Sunday, March 23, suspected Al Shabaab militants overran a national police reserve camp in Fafi, Garissa County, killing six people, with four others left with serious injuries.

The attack came days after the militants abducted three men from the Elwak area of Mandera County.

Murkomen was appointed to head the Interior Ministry in December 2024 after Kindiki ascended to the Deputy President seat.
