"They also discussed the need to end ongoing conflicts in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan," read the statement in part.
This is the second time in a month that the duo have engaged on security concerns in the region.
In a similar conversation on Friday, February 21, the two talked about the conflict in DRC after M23 took control of Goma and Bukavu.
Notably, the March 25 call came after leaders from both the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) held a joint meeting to discuss the DRC conflict.
At the meeting, former President Uhuru Kenyatta and other leaders were selected to be the facilitators of the DRC peace process.
