The deadline has been set for April 11, 2025.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has invited qualified teachers to apply for specialized training in the development of quality test items.

In a notice on Wednesday, April 2, KNEC said this initiative aims to support the effective implementation of Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) in Basic Education and teacher training levels.

The council explained that trained teachers and educators may later be engaged as contracted professionals.

According to KNEC, applicants interested in the training program must meet specific minimum requirements which include unquestionable and irreproachable integrity.

Additionally, candidates must be professionals, experts, or subject specialists in the field or learning area of interest.

Further, applicants should also be actively teaching in either primary school (grades 4, 5, and 6), junior school (grades 7 and 8), senior school (teachers expected to instruct grade 10 learners in 2026), teacher training colleges (DTE-PP&P and DSTE) or stage-based pathway (foundation, intermediate or prevocational levels).

KNEC demands that applicants must also possess relevant academic and professional qualifications, be well-versed in curriculum design within their subject area and have at least three years of teaching experience.

Furthermore, candidates must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and receive a recommendation from their institution’s head.

Teachers and educators interested in this training must submit their applications online by April 11, 2025, via the KNEC application portal http://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke.

Applicants are directed to carefully follow instructions, provide all required details, and upload necessary documents in a single continuous PDF.

While the training will be conducted online, KNEC said only successful applicants will receive notifications via phone or email.

Teachers who have already been trained by KNEC in item writing are advised not to apply.
