The former police officer was found guilty of murder.

A former police officer has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after he was found guilty of murder.

In a statement on Monday, April 7, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said Wilfred Kibichy Too was found guilty of murdering Susan Nasiru Emure in January 2021 in Turkana County.

“The court heard that on the 12th day of January 2021, at Kakong area, Kainuk Division within Turkana South Sub-County, the accused, Wilfred Kibichy Too, who at the time was a police officer attached to Kakong Police Post, murdered Susan Nasiru Emure,” read part of the statement.

The ODPP noted that the murder incident occurred after the former officer was involved in an altercation with Susan, who owned a bar in Kakong area, Turkana County.

During the arguments, Too was struck on the head and sustained a bleeding injury. The angry former officer went to his house and picked up his service firearm, and returned to the bar where he sprayed several bullets at Susan and killed her.

“A physical altercation ensued between him and Ms. Susan, the bar’s female owner, during which he was struck on the head and sustained a bleeding injury. Following the incident, he proceeded to his house, retrieved his service firearm, returned to the premises, and discharged several rounds at the woman, fatally wounding her on the spot,” ODPP stated.

During the case, the prosecution presented 7 witnesses to testify in support of the case.

Evidence adduced in court also indicated that the accused went to the bar where he consumed alcohol and refused to foot the bill.

While delivering the judgment, Justice Nyakundi said he would have sentenced the accused to death if it were constitutional in Kenya.

“Were it that in Kenya the death sentence was carried out, I would have sentenced him to death,” the Judge stated.
