A Nairobi court was told on Thursday that former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is unfit to stand trial.
On Thursday the court directed that Mike Sonko undergoes another psychiatric test to confirm whether he is mentally fit to stand trial.
A doctor from the Aga Khan hospital told the courts that Sonko is mentally unfit to stand trial as the ex-governor faces graft charges and terrorism-associated charges.
Magistrate Peter Ooko noted that although two medical reports have pointed out that Sonko has a bipolar condition, they did not explain well how he was unfit for trial.
Magistrate Walks Out
The Magistrate ordered Sonko be examined by a psychiatrist at the Kenyatta National Hospital and presented in court on March 12, 2021.
In a separate court from the magistrate handling the former Nairobi governor’s graft case stormed out of the courtroom.
Sonko's lawyers accused Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti of not listening to them, raising allegations of prejudice towards the ex-county boss.
Ogoti refused to recuse himself from hearing one of his fraud cases.
