President William Ruto has announced that Kenya will host the 11th edition of the Our Ocean Conference in 2026.
In a statement on Monday, April 14, via X, the President said Kenya was requested to host the event by the organization’s advisory group.
Ruto noted that the request was a result of Kenya’s exemplary leadership in global environmental and ocean issues.
“Kenya will host the 11th edition of the Our Ocean Conference in 2026. Our country was requested by the organization’s Advisory Group to host the annual meeting because of the exemplary global leadership we have shown in environmental and ocean issues,” read part of the statement.
The Head of State also highlighted that Kenya is a pioneer in national policies that tackle ocean pollution.

According to Ruto, the Ocean Conference will give Kenya an opportunity to highlight its blue economy agenda and champion for climate action on oceans.
“The conference, therefore, will be an apt opportunity for Kenya to highlight our blue economy agenda and champion Africa's climate action on oceans, especially in the Indian Ocean, which is a shared resource among 23 countries,” Ruto added.
Further, President Ruto said he held a telephone conversation with former US Secretary of State John Kerry, who is also a founder of the Our Ocean Conference.
Ruto said the former US Secretary of State expressed his support for Kenya hosting the conference in 2026.
