  • Dr Oburu noted that ODM will rally behind Joho should he emerge victorious in the presidential nomination exercise.

East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Oburu Odinga has weighed in on Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s presidential bid, noting that it is his democratic right to vie for the presidency on an ODM ticket.

Speaking on Friday night during an interview, Dr. Oburu noted that ODM will rally behind Joho should he emerge victorious in the presidential nomination exercise.

He dismissed claims that the ODM flag has been set aside for his younger brother Raila Odinga, noting that all interested candidates will be subjected to a nomination exercise.

“If Joho wins the ODM presidential nominations, we will campaign for him…” he said.

As to whether Raila requires President Uhuru Kenyatta’s endorsement to win the 2022 presidential race, should he chose to vie, Dr. Oburu noted that Raila ‘won’ the last three presidential elections without the help of Uhuru.

“Raila will not rely on Uhuru’s endorsement, how can he rely on his endorsement when he had won three times without Uhuru?” he posed.

On alleged plans to impeach Deputy President William Ruto, Oburu noted that ODM will support the same, but will not initiate it.

“If Jubilee initiates the impeachment of DP we will support it, but we will not initiate it for them,” he opined.
