A family in Tuala, Ongata Rongai, is in agony after their kin was killed by a lioness roaming in the area.
The 13-year-old Peace Mwende was playing with two of her friends in their compound on Saturday, April 19 evening, when the lioness attacked her.
The lioness is reported to have dragged Mwende into a nearby river and ate 80 percent of her body.
Mwende’s father, Kennedy Kigen, recounted hearing her daughter screaming and rushed outside only to find the lioness dragging his daughter away.
Kigen’s efforts to rescue her daughter from the lioness were, however, futile.

“I was nearby when I heard screams. I came outside to try and help, only to find my child being carried away by the lioness. We tried to follow, but we couldn’t save her,” Kigen narrated.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on Sunday, April 20, announced that it has deployed rangers and set a trap for the roaming lioness.
The Tuala area residents have demanded for the government to set up an electric fence from Rongai to Kitengela to stop wild animals from crossing over and causing havoc.
Meanwhile, a 54-year-old man in Kyeni, Nyeri County, was on Friday, April 18, attacked by an elephant as he was grazing his livestock.
The man sustained serious chest injuries, fractured ribs, and internal trauma. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.
