Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has claimed that former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was not appointed as a Cabinet Secretary in the current administration due to a negative report on him by the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
Speaking on Tuesday, April 2,2 during an interview, Sudi said he pushed for Malala to be a CS, but his report by NIS was bad and hence he was not appointed.
Sudi also disclosed that Malala was promised a Principal Secretary position, but it didn’t work out before he was appointed as the United Democratic Alliance Party Secretary General.
"Malala wanted to become a Cabinet Secretary. We fought for him, along with his friends, so that he could be appointed, but his report from the NIS came out very badly, so it didn’t work out.
“He was then promised the position of Principal Secretary, but that also failed, and that’s how he ended up being given the role of UDA Secretary General, which allows him to sit in the Cabinet,” Sudi revealed.

At the same time, Sudi accused Malala of diverting the money he was given to campaign for the Kakamega Gubernatorial seat to building his house in Kakamega.
“We supported Malala in his bid to become the governor of Kakamega. We gave him money, only to find out later he was building a house. He didn’t even campaign. While Barasa was being sworn in, Malala was busy launching his new house,” Sudi claimed.
The Kapseret MP further accused Malala of withdrawing funds from the UDA party accounts weekly.
"Go to the UDA party, he was withdrawing more than 5 million every week. He is a thief,” Sudi alleged.
Malala was removed as the UDA SG in August 2024 following a National Executive Committee meeting.
EALA Member of Parliament Hassan Omar replaced him in the position in an acting capacity.
