The Nairobi City County Government has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Orchid Lounge for operating without the required license and failing to comply with noise control regulations.
In a statement on Wednesday, April 30, Nairobi Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria said the action followed a late-night operation in response to a noise pollution complaint lodged by area residents.
"Last night at midnight, I led the Environment and Liquor team in response to a noise pollution complaint involving Orchid Lounge, which has been operating as a nightclub without the required license.
"Despite having previously been served with both written notices and verbal warnings, the establishment has failed to comply with directives—specifically the requirement to install soundproofing to minimize disturbance to nearby residents," he said.

Mosiria stated that the establishment has been granted three days to provide reasons for their non-compliance, failure to which a closure order will be issued.
"As a result, we issued a notice of intended closure, giving them 72 hours to provide a satisfactory explanation for their continued non-compliance. Failure to do so will result in further enforcement action, including the issuance of a closure order," he added.
This new development comes two weeks after NEMA ordered the immediate closure of Habanos Lounge, a popular night club located along the Northern Bypass.
In a statement on Wednesday, April 16, NEMA said it ordered the closure following persistent noise pollution complaints from area residents.
The agency cited the club’s repeated failure to comply with prior directives aimed at reducing noise levels despite several warnings and engagements.
"NEMA yesterday issued a Closure Order to Habanos Lounge, located along Northern Bypass, following persistent noise complaints from neighbors and failure by the club to adhere to previous orders to control noise pollution. The orders are to take effect immediately," NEMA said in its statement.
