Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is set to make his first public appearance of 2025 with a major rally scheduled for Friday, May 2.
In a statement on Wednesday, April 30, Team Matiang’i Secretariat said the event, dubbed meet-the-people tour, will mark the former CS’s return to the public stage after a period of political silence.
According to the secretariat, preparations for the tour are complete, with a number of high-profile leaders from the region expected to accompany him.
"The Team Matiang'i Secretariat, responsible for coordinating the engagements of our leader, Dr. Fred Okeng'o Matiang'i, is pleased to inform the public that the former Cabinet Secretary will make his first public appearance this year in the Gusii region on Friday, May 2, 2025,” the statement read.
The Secretariat confirmed that the event will bring together all elected leaders from the Gusii region including Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo.

"Dr. Matiang'i will be accompanied by all elected leaders from the Gusii region, including Governors Simba Arati and Amos Nyaribo, Senators Momoima Onyonka and Okong'o Omogeni, as well as Members of Parliament and Members of County Assemblies,” the statement added.

The day-long tour will feature several key stopovers, allowing Matiang’i to engage directly with residents across the region.
Stops will include Kijauri, Keroka, Keumbu, Kisii Town, and Nyamira, with courtesy visits planned at the offices of Kisii and Nyamira county governors.
“The visit will include a meet-the-people tour and official courtesy visits to the offices of the respective Governors of Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
"Key stopovers during the tour: Kijauri, Keroka, Keumbu, Kisii Town, and Nyamira. This visit underscores Dr. Matiang'i's commitment to listening to the people and reconnecting with the grassroots,” the statement concluded.
Matiang’i arrived in the country on Thursday, April 17, from the United States where he has been working with the World Bank.
A week later, on Tuesday, April 27, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua welcomed the former Interior Cabinet Secretary into his team.
In a social media update, Gachagua said the team that also comprises former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi and former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi is committed to liberating Kenya.
“The team to liberate Kenya gets bigger every day. Welcome, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Hon. JB Muturi and Hon. Mithika Linturi. You are on the right side of history," he said.
Also present at the meeting were key political figures including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Mukhisa Kituyi.
Jubilee National Chairman Torome Saitoti was also present in the meeting.
