The water outage is due to ongoing repair works on 6 pump motors and their electrical control panels at Kabete pumping station.

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has announced that there will be water supply interruption in parts of Nairobi and its environs.

In a statement sent to the newsrooms on Wednesday, May 7, NCWSC said the water outage is expected to take 24 hours and is a result of ongoing repair works on 6 pump motors and their electrical control panels at Kabete pumping station.

“Water supply Interruption is expected to affect certain City Estates due to ongoing repair works on 6 pump motors and their electrical control panels at Kabete pumping station. The pumps, at Kabete, assist in increasing water pressure and move the flow towards Dagoretti and Uthiru reservoirs,” read part of the statement.

NCWSC explained that the damage was orchestrated by the failure of a butterfly pump at the Kabete Water Treatment Works on May 4, 2025 splashing water to the pump motors and control panels resulting to the damage.

The water company noted that its technical team spent the better part of Tuesday May 6, repairing the pipeline and which is currently ongoing.
