The Economic Survey report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has revealed 15 counties where reported crimes to police increased between 2023 and 2024.

In the report that was released on Tuesday, May 6, the largest increase in crime was recorded in Narok County. In 2023, the reported crimes were 1,483, and the figures increased to 1,991 in 2025. This was an increase of 508.

Migori County recorded the second-highest increase of reported crime (1,938 to 2,388). This was an increase of 450.

The county that was ranked third was Kisumu (2,380 to 2,822 - showing an increase of 442).

In Kilifi, crimes reported to police in 2024 increased by 383.

Other counties with a significant increase in reported crimes were Marsabit (261), Nandi (197), West Pokot (189), Turkana (155), Kericho (120), Bomet (95) and Tharaka-Nithi (82).

Increased crimes were also reported in Kitui (66), Mandera (44), Elgeyo Marakwet (21) and Mombasa (18).

"The total number of crimes reported decreased by 3.5 per cent to 101,220 in 2024. There was a general decrease in all crimes reported to the police, except for criminal damages, offences involving police officers and other penal code offences, which increased by 0.8, 36.7 and 16 per cent, respectively, in 2024," read the report in part.

"Traffic offences and offences involving tourists had the most significant declines in 2024, decreasing by 58.4 per cent and 42.6 per cent, respectively. The number of other offences against persons and stealing jointly accounted for 42.0 per cent of all the crimes reported in 2024."
