Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday May 7 held a meeting with the United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington D.C.

In a statement via X, Mudavadi disclosed that they discussed regional peace and security, expanded trade and investment, and deepened diplomatic engagement between Kenya and the US.

“Kenya and the United States continue to build on decades of shared values and strategic cooperation. In Washington, D.C., I held a high-level meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State, Senator Marco Rubio, where we discussed regional peace and security, expanded trade and investment, and deepened diplomatic engagement,” said Mudavadi.

The Prime CS also said they emphasized the need to fast-track the Kenya–U.S. Free Trade Agreement.

Mudavadi also briefed Rubio on the ongoing East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC)-led peace efforts in the DRC.

He further said Rubio reaffirmed the US government’s support for the Kenya-led MSS Mission in Haiti and leadership on regional stability.

“Sen. Rubio reaffirmed U.S. support for Kenya’s leadership on regional stability, democratic governance, and the Kenya-led MSS Mission in Haiti,” Mudavadi added.

The Prime CS additionally said Rubio expressed keen interest in visiting Kenya to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Mudavadi was joined by PS Koris Singoei, Monica Juma, Ambassador David Kerich, and Deputy Ambassador Christopher Kirigua during the meeting.

Mudavadi is in Washington, D.C. for high-level bilateral talks with the United States government.

In a statement on Tuesday, May 6, the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary said the visit followed an invitation from the US administration.

Mudavadi is also scheduled to meet Brian Mast, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, officials from the International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC), and US investors during a business roundtable at the US Chamber of Commerce.
