Opposition leaders have already expressed their reservations over the nominations, stating that they were not consulted.

The Elections Observation Group (ELOG) has demanded the release of the report prepared by the IEBC selection panel, which recommended the commissioners to be appointed to the electoral body.

In a statement dated Friday, May 9, the lobby group explained that the move would make the process more transparent.

According to ELOG, Kenyans also deserved to read the report, given that the commissioners will be presiding over the elections.

"The report was only submitted to the president and was not made public. We demand the immediate release of the full recruitment report. Transparency and accountability through the observance of open data principles are fundamental for good governance," read the report in part.

ELOG made the demand after the panel submitted its report to President William Ruto.

After receiving the report, Ruto nominated Erastus Edung Ethekon as the new IEBC chairperson.

Also nominated to the commission were Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Odhiambo Aduol, Fahima Araphat Abdallah, Mary Karen Sorobit, Ann Njeri Nderitu and Moses Alutalala Mukhwana.

The 7 will join the electoral body should their names be approved by Parliament.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka have already expressed their reservations over the nominations, stating that they were not consulted.

“We are extremely concerned that Mr. Ruto chose to be partisan by ignoring the Principle of Consultation and Concurrence in his recommendations of the Chairman and Members of IEBC. This action has automatically created a low-trust institution," he added.
