"We invite all citizens, civil society, media, and international observers to witness this historic reclamation of justice and democratic order."

Former KICC board chairperson Irungu Nyakera has announced that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s supporters will hold a peaceful march to the official residence of the Deputy President in Karen.

In a statement on Monday May 12, Nyakera said the march will take place on Tuesday May 13 following a press conference at Chester House.

He noted that they aim to reclaim the official residence of the Deputy President following a court ruling that declared a three-judge bench constituted to hear a petition challenging Gachagua's removal as unconstitutional.

Nyakera said there will be pick-up points in Kayole, Dandora, Muthurwa, Kawangware, Githurai, Pumwani, Mwiki, Utawala, and Ngong.

“H.E. Rigathi Gachagua was duly and democratically elected on August 9, 2022. His removal from office, therefore, subverted the sovereign will of the Kenyan people who elected him. Following the ruling of the court of appeal, we will hold an international press conference at Chester House tomorrow, followed by a peaceful procession to Karen, where the Deputy President will reclaim his rightful residence.

“This is not just a political statement, but a constitutional correction. We invite all citizens, civil society, media, and international observers to witness this historic reclamation of justice and democratic order. We will share details of pick-up points from Kayole, Dandora, Muthurwa, Kawangware, Githurai, Pumwani, Mwiki, Utawala, and Ngong,” Nyakera stated.

On Friday, Court of Appeal Judges Daniel Musinga, Mumbi Ngugi, and Francis Tuiyott quashed Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu's October 2024 appointment of Justices Eric Ogola, Anthony Mrima, and Lady Justice Freidah Mugambi to hear petitions filed by Gachagua following his impeachment.

The appellate court directed that the matter be referred to Chief Justice Martha Koome to empanel a bench to hear and determine the matter.

Gachagua was impeached on October 18, 2024, after the Senate upheld the impeachment done by the National Assembly.

He was succeeded by Kithure Kindiki, who previously held the Interior docket.
