Kenya Met has projected continued rains for 4 regions across the country, including Nairobi.

In a statement dated Monday, May 12, the rains are expected in Central Highlands (including Nairobi), Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, and Western Kenya.

Meanwhile, the intensity of the rains is expected to drop as the week ends.

On the other hand, Kenya Met also cautioned that some parts of the country would experience cold nights.

"Daytime highs of over 30°C are expected in much of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya," read the statement in part.

"Night-time lows of below 10°C likely in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and around Mt. Kilimanjaro."

Heavy rains have been experienced in recent days in some parts of the country, including Nairobi.

This has led to flooding incidents in some Nairobi estates and the Central Business District (CBD), as was witnessed on Sunday, May 11.

As a result, Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi’s Chief Officer for Environment, detailed that some of the flooding had been caused by structures that were blocking drainage systems.

"We issued a notice for the removal of structures from the drainage systems. With the growing population, land is covered by structures, so most of the water goes to the drainage systems," Mosiria stated.
