"Your belated resignation is a futile attempt to rewrite the facts of your incompetence arising from your inability to understand and execute the mandate of your office."

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has issued a strongly worded statement following former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s resignation from the party.

In a statement on Monday, May 12, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar termed Gachagua’s resignation letter from the party as a futile attempt to rewrite the facts.

Omar noted that UDA removed Gachagua as its deputy party leader following his impeachment in October 2024.

“This is to acknowledge the receipt of your resignation letter dated 12th May, 2025, which you posted on your social media handles captioned as above. The UDA Party took note of the grounds of your impeachment in October last year.

“We moved with the stealth of national conscience to equally remove you as the Deputy Party Leader. Your belated resignation is a futile attempt to rewrite the facts of your incompetence arising from your inability to understand and execute the mandate of your office. You distinguished yourself as the worst of the tribal bigots to hold such high office in Kenya. I am sure Kenya will never again have your likes in national leadership, never,” read part of the statement.

Omar went on to say Gachagua’s resignation has unburdened the UDA party of a toxic, archaic, polarizing, and viscous individual.

Further, Omar slammed Gachagua, saying he has given his impeachment further credence due to his inability to internalize the government’s plan and transformative agenda.

“The grounds established by Parliament warranting your impeachment are given further credence by your inability to internalize THE PLAN as the most progressive socioeconomic transformation agenda in the history of the nation, that totally reorganizes the social, political, and economic architecture of our country,” said Omar.

On Monday, Gachagua wrote to the UDA announcing his resignation as a member of the party.

In the letter, Gachagua accused the ruling party of betraying Kenyans' hopes and abandoning the promises that propelled it to power.

He said the UDA, once a symbol of hope, had now become the most dangerous political movement for Kenyans, adding that it is unfit to govern the country.

"By a copy of this letter, you are notified that I have officially resigned from the UDA Party with immediate effect. I have made this decision in knowledge of the ideals of the Party we believed in and so were millions of Kenyans, but now it has turned out as the most dangerous political moment for the people and the Republic of Kenya in the retrogressive philosophy of an unfit class to govern our Nation. The party has exhausted and wasted a Kenyan moment to take off economically, socially, and politically," said Gachagua.

The former DP cited a wide array of grievances, asserting that the party's flagship Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda had become an empty slogan.
