In her new position, Sittoni will serve as the link between the media house and its audiences across NMG’s print, digital, and broadcast platforms.

According to the statement, the role of the public editor is to ensure transparency, accessibility, and accountability in the company’s journalism.

She will also monitor compliance with the company’s editorial policies and guidelines.

“Her primary responsibility will be to handle complaints related to accuracy, fairness, balance, and ethical concerns, and to monitor overall compliance with the Editorial Policy and Guidelines in news gathering and presentation,” the statement further read.

Additionally, Sittoni will take on a public education role, helping audiences better understand how journalism works within a democratic framework.

“She will play a public education role, helping audiences understand the processes, norms, and responsibilities of journalism in a democratic society,” the statement added.

Notably, until June 30, 2024, Sittoni served as the Group Managing Editor, where she oversaw editorial output across all the Group’s platforms.

She has also held roles including Executive Editor in charge of Partnerships and Managing Editor at both the Daily Nation and The East African.
