President William Ruto on Tuesday, May 20, handed over the first set of affordable houses constructed in the Mukuru affordable housing project.
During the event held in Mukuru, the Head of State handed over 1,080 keys to new homeowners.
Ruto expressed the handing over ceremony as one of the most consequential days in his political career.
He explained that the project was a success, having taken an unpopular decision for the projects that saw the government introduce the Housing Levy.
"Today marks a turning point not only for the residents of Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Kwa Reuben, and Marigu-ini, but also for all Kenyans who have been left behind for far too long.

"I have no doubt that many years from now, when we look back on this day and this project, it will stand out as a moment when lives were transformed, dignity restored, and hope renewed," he stated.
The Mukuru Housing project is one of the projects being undertaken across the country. Once complete, the project will have 13,248 units.
Owing to the high number of tenants expected to occupy the houses, the project includes a 5-million-litre underground tank to ensure an uninterrupted supply of water.
There are also high-level storage tanks holding 210,000 litres.
Equally, the project has a fire station, a day care facility, a health centre, a strip mall and waste rooms.
"The Mukuru Meteorological project is the largest single-site housing intervention in Kenya’s history. Its scale, its integrated design, and its focus on transforming informal settlements make it a landmark in public housing delivery. Residents will not only access housing, but a full ecosystem of social infrastructure," Ruto expressed.
"So far, it has injected Ksh11 billion directly into construction and neighbourhood development. For every shilling invested, an additional Ksh2.50 is generated through supporting businesses, meaning nearly Ksh28 billion has already been infused into the economy through this single initiative."
On his part, the President also called on Kenyans to register on Boma Yangu and benefit from the thousands of houses being constructed across the country.
"The Boma Yangu platform is our gateway to equitable homeownership. It is transparent, inclusive, and easy to use. Over 4,000 homes are already up for purchase. Whether you earn less than Ksh20,000 or over Ksh150,000, there’s a pathway for you," he added.
"I urge every Kenyan to register today at www.bomayangu.go.ke or dial *832#. Let us democratise homeownership and make this dream a reality for all."
