Police officers in Nakuru have arrested a sixth suspect linked to a string of violent robberies in Nakuru County.

In a statement on Wednesday, June 4, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect was apprehended during an operation at the Mzee wa Nyama area.

The suspect was found with exhibits recently robbed from a Pakawa resident by gunmen.

He was handed over to Nakuru East detectives to be joined in the case alongside his accomplices.

“Sixth suspect in the series of violent robberies in Nakuru, Elijah Kimani Kinyanjui, has been arrested in an operation conducted at the County's Mzee wa Nyama area. In his possession were found exhibits recently robbed from a Pakawa resident by armed gunmen. Suspect handed over to Nakuru East detectives and to be enjoined in the case facing the earlier charged accomplices," DCI stated.

On Monday, detectives drawn from the DCI's Operation Action Team and Crime Research Bureau arrested 5 suspects in connection with the wave of deadly robberies in Nakuru County.

DCI also noted that the suspects were behind the killing of a police officer and wounding two others in Nakuru’s Free area.

During the operation, the detectives recovered an AK-47 rifle serial number 18916, loaded with three rounds of ammunition, concealed in dry grass.

“On the night of June 1st, 2025, the robbers ambushed and opened fire at police officers on foot patrol, killing one and injuring two. The injured officers are still receiving treatment,” DCI stated.

The 5 suspects include: William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and ⁠Peter Chacha.

The three police officers were on patrol at around 1:29 am on Monday when they were ambushed by the gang members.

One of the officers was fatally shot while the two others sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for treatment.
